Description

 

The Pedagogical Committee of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis started its activities in 1976.
From 1976 to 1988, the Pedagogical Committee has :

  • contributed to the definition of the national educational objectives with all the Tunisian medical faculties (Profile of Position of the Tunisian Doctor) and of the general objectives of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis.
  • set up a pedagogical training for teachers of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis relating in particular to pedagogy by objectives, teaching planning, teaching methods, docimology.
  • prepared a total educational reform with the support of the deans of the faculty, and the active participation of teachers and students.


The application of this reform started in October 1988 and required accompanying work, involving all the teachers, to put it in place for all the cycles of medical studies, because this new approach aimed to organize medical studies for the acquisition of skills while focusing training on student learning.
This has led to the generalization of self-study minimodules, the encouragement of interactive teaching, the establishment of internship notebooks and the establishment of an objective assessment.

Objective

 

  • Support the efforts of the management of the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis in the development of student-centered learning methods and the acquisition of skills.
  • Train teachers on the pedagogical level so that they can ensure :

    • student training oriented by educational objectives defined from the skills to be acquired.
    • an objective and valid assessment.

     

  • Contribute to the development of learning and assessment tools.
Previous events

 

To consolidate the educational approach adopted by the Faculty of Medicine of Tunis, teacher training seminars have been regularly organized.


Currently the training offered to teachers is as follows :

    • The issue of medical education and its educational implications. From the knowledge acquisition mechanism to the sharing of student teacher roles in medical education.
    • Pedagogy by objectives. Planning an education. Educational objectives.
    • Assessment of skills (except PMP and ECOSM tests scheduled separately): Written tests, Practical tests.
    • The self-study minimodule: structuring. The relevance of a course in clinical pathology.
    • The CIAP session (Clarifications, illustrations, Application, Participation). The use of transparency in medical education.
    • The design and construction of an algorithm. The design and construction of a PMP (Patient Management Problem).
    • The clinical internship: objectives, planning, activities and means of learning, evaluation.
    • The principles of the evaluation of clinical placements and the objective clinical evaluation test (ECOSM).
    • Supervised work in an externship internship. The diagnostic approach (iterative validation of hypotheses).
    • Directed work in internship. Continuing medical education: educational aspects.
    • The criteria for a critical reading of a medical journal article.
    • Teaching basic and mixed sciences.
    • The evaluation of a medical education program and the conditions for its realization.

     


    It should be noted that since 2008, all newly recruited assistants must participate in the first three training courses mentioned above.
    Since 2013, seminars have been held annually (on average 6 sessions) for all of the teachers in charge of university hospital services, in coordination with the heads of service, for planning, monitoring and evaluation. student learning activities.
    During these seminars, they receive training on their role as « referent supervisor » and how to achieve the learning objectives defined in the student internship notebooks, knowing that these internship notebooks have been implemented since early 90s and have been updated several times thanks to the active participation of teachers, the will of the Internship Management and the technical support of the Pedagogical Committee.

    Assessment tools have been developed such as :

    • The guide for the management of the tests of a theoretical examination within the framework of the certificate or the theme, in collaboration with the evaluation department and the support of the studies directorate.
    • The guide for the evaluation of internships with the support of the internship management.

    A certificate of complementary studies in Medical Pedagogy has been implemented since the academic year 2016/2017.

Future Projects

 

  • Develop pedagogical training for teachers.
  • Support the production of educational materials allowing the acquisition of cognitive skills of high taxonomic level.
  • Continue efforts to make practical training successful in internships.
  • Promote the effective involvement of the student in his learning.
